How to Get Back a Tux Deposit

Whether it's a small $30 deposit or a whopping $250 of your money in the tux rental shop's cash drawer, getting your deposit back from a tuxedo rental is important. Luckily, by following some simple steps and being cautious with how you handle the tux (and yourself) during its use, you should be able to get the deposit back simply and easily.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read the rental agreement carefully and ask questions about anything that's not clear. Pay attention to the fine print of the deposit section so you know what you need to bring back with the tux and what condition the suit has to be in upon return for you to get your deposit back.

  2. Step 2

Gather all the pieces. Before, during and after you use the tux, you should keep all the pieces of the rental together and in one place. Losing just one piece can make you liable for at least that piece of the tux and sometimes the whole amount of the deposit. Use all boxes, hangers and bags that the tux came with so you can keep track of everything.

  3. Step 3

Pay attention to time. Getting the tux back to the rental shop in one piece is not your only concern. Almost all tuxedo rental companies require that you return the tux before a specified time. Failure to get the tux back on time results in a loss of part or all of your deposit money.

  4. Step 4

Return the tux and get your money. Take the tux back to the store on time and in good condition and request your deposit. You are entitled to receive your deposit in the form, such as cash or credit card, that you gave it to the store. So, bring your receipt and rental agreement when you return the tux and be firm in your request for the full amount of the deposit in the form you paid it.
