Step 1
Write down what you think feminist ideology is. Describe what you think a feminist would think about women, men, relationships, parenting, working and politics. Write down what a feminist would look like in your mind.
-
Step 2
Consider whether you view yourself as a feminist. Record any thoughts you have that you believe to be feminist in nature based on your current knowledge of what you believe constitutes feminism and what doesn't.
-
Step 3
Become acquainted with the seven major forms of feminist thought: liberal feminism, radical feminism, individualist feminism, black feminism, socialist feminism, ecofeminism and post-modern feminism. Jot information about these forms of feminism forms on a sheet of paper so you can return to it and add key thoughts and points.
-
Step 4
Research each of the different forms of feminism. Locate the main difference of each different type, noting it on your research sheet. For example, radical feminists believe basically that all female oppression is the result of men's need for ego dominance, while conservative feminism believes that equality means death of the family and traditional values.
-
Step 5
Go back and identify where your personal ideologies fall into the various feminist schools of thought after you research. Work hard at distinguishing between the various forms of feminism and not stereotyping the feminist ideology as "man hating" or "femi-Nazi," which are often used in reference to radical feminists discounting the various other forms.
