How to Become Lutheran
We have Martin Luther and his 95 Theses to thank for the start of the Lutheran religion. Lutherans broke away from the Catholic church and share some of the same rituals, but have worked with other denominations in order to share communion within each other's churches. To become a Lutheran, you'll need to study and to be baptized, but you also need to make sure you're really ready to make the commitment.

1
Learn about the Lutheran religion. Make sure you know at least a little about what Lutherans believe and how they worship. You can visit the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to find out more about the Lutheran religion. In addition to the ELCA, this website links to a number of other Lutheran organizations.
-
2
Make sure you are ready to commit to Lutheranism before you begin any instruction with a pastor. Attend a couple of religious services at different churches before you make any final decisions.

3
Pick a Lutheran church that you'd like to become a part of. You may want to speak to the pastors at a few different churches in order to make this important decision.
-
4
Get baptized. If you have not been baptized, you'll need to take a religion course called Catechumenate. The pastor at the church you have chosen will teach you about the church and what baptism means. At the end of this course, you will be baptized.
-
5
Attend a Lutheran membership class at the church you've chose once you have been baptized. You'll learn about what exactly Lutherans believe, the history of the Lutheran church and how the Lutheran church works.

Finish classes to become an official member of the Lutheran Church at a Sunday service.
