Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Exceed their expectations for about a month before the prom. Vow to bring home grades that would impress your parents and be sure to do everything they ask in addition to going above and beyond their expectations on housework. Do the dishes, laundry or whatever else they ask you to do normally, unsolicited.
Step2
Show responsibility. Abide by curfew for the few weeks before prom and if you mess up at any point, take full responsibility for actions that were out of line. Show them that you are capable of being measured and rational instead of impulsive. This goes a long way to showing your parents that they're able to trust you enough to give you an extended curfew on prom night.
Step3
Promise not to do anything stupid on prom night. Plan on doing something acceptable after prom instead of drinking or going to a hotel. Steer clear of activities that your parents would disapprove of and make plans to stay out and have fun in a safe way.
Step4
Ask for an extended curfew politely. State your case, but don't seem pushy. If your parents believe that you're asking for more time out so you can go and do something irresponsible, they will most certainly say no.
Step5
Avoid giving up hope. If for some reason your parents absolutely refuse to give you an extended curfew on prom night, give them options. If you're interested in attending a chaperoned after-prom, ask them if they would like to participate. Though it may be a tough reality, you might have to make some sacrifices to get what you want.
