Step 1
Discuss the guest list with the expectant parents. Send out invitations specifically stating that this is a shower for multiples. This will help guests plan their purchases accordingly.
-
Step 2
Consider asking certain groups to purchase large ticket items together and double the number of items, such as car seats, strollers, high chairs, infant seats, basinets and cribs.
-
Step 3
Talk to the expectant mom to find out if any items have already been promised from others, such as the expectant grandparents. Fewer gift duplication means less time spent returning items for the new parents.
-
Step 4
Plan the baby shower well in advance of delivery. Most multiple births come earlier than single births, so take this into consideration. You also want the shower to be an enjoyable experience for the mom to be. Throw the shower when she can still get around fairly easily.
-
Step 5
Limit shower games and have door prizes instead. Moms expecting multiples tire more easily than those carrying one child, so plan a shower that isn't too long.
-
Step 6
Set up opportunities for guests to sign up to help after the babies come. Parents of multiples need extra hands after the babies come home. Pass around a sign-up sheet for help with meals, housecleaning and laundry. Time is one of the best gifts anyone can give to parents of multiples.
-
Step 7
Have a box for donations at the baby shower. Since everything is doubly expensive when having multiples, this little addition can be used later for diapers, formula or even college funds.
