Major changes to a room's appearance can be made by changing the window treatment. A bishop's sleeve window covering is perfect for tall windows, providing a beautiful mass of fabric to soften the room.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the window length. Take a measurement from the curtain rod to the floor.

  2. Step 2

Find the width of the window. Measure the area where your curtains are to begin and extend all the way across to the opposite side.

  3. Step 3

Measure for the material or curtain purchase. If you are making the curtains at home, add the amount that is necessary for the rod plus one half. Also add an amount twice the size of the bottom seam. Add between 1 or 2 feet of material for the blousing. If you are buying the curtains, add 1 to 2 feet for the blousing. Calculate 1 1/2 to 2 times the amount needed for gathering.

  4. Step 4

Overlap the top and stitch shut leaving a 1/2 inch hem. Turn under the bottom hem twice and stitch at the edge. Seam the sides if necessary.

  5. Step 5

Create a tie-back by doubling the distance for the start of the valence to the hook. Stitch the material shut and add rings on the end.

  6. Step 6

Hang the curtains and tie it back with the material that you made. Gently blouse out from the tie-back.
