How to Keep Soda From Losing Its Fizz

Many people love soda pop, but not after it loses its fizz and goes flat. This happens when all the carbonated water escapes from the drink. When you know what causes this, you can find ways to keep soda from losing its fizz.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Keep the soda sealed up at all times before pouring. Keeping the soda in a vacuum prevents the carbonated water from fizzing into the air.
Step2
Refrigerate the soda and keep it as cool as possible. Soda fizzes more at warmer temperatures. Place the bottle back in the refrigerator immediately after pouring to keep it cool.
Step3
Avoid shaking the bottle or can. This causes the carbon dioxide to directly mix with the air, making it fizz more.
Step4
Store the soda in smaller containers. Soda becomes flat in a nearly empty bottle because there's more air to escape into. Soda in 12 or 20 ounce bottles will keep fizz longer than in a 2-liter container.
Step5
Pour the soda at an angle. Tilt the glass so the soda pours along the inner side before reaching the bottom. This reduces the energy of impact, which affects the amount of fizz.
Step6
Use wet ice in the glass. Soda fizzes more upon touching dry surfaces, so let the ice get a little slick, either in your hands or under the tap. Many restaurants use this technique.
