Taking a nature tour is much more enjoyable if you have the right clothing. The type of clothing you'll need depends on where the tour will be and the season. Dressing for a nature tour in Florida is very different from a nature tour in New England. Here are some helpful tips on dressing for a nature tour.

From Quick Guide: Nature Tours
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Hot Weather Nature Tours

  1. Step 1

Take lightweight shirts that are light colored. If you are taking a nature tour in tropical areas, insects and mosquitoes can be a problem. Wearing a plain shirt that has no flowers on it will keep the bugs away from you. Dress in light colors to keep cooler in hot weather. Bring both long sleeve and short sleeve shirts. If you are walking through heavy forests, long sleeve shirts will help protect your arms.

  2. Step 2

Bring both long slacks and shorts for a hot weather nature tour. Shorts are wonderful for walking on the beach, a garden or a well traveled trail. If you are walking through the woods, you'll need to dress in long slacks to protect your legs. Make sure the pants are loose enough to walk in comfort. Lighter colored pants are recommended to keep you cool.

  3. Step 3

Protect your feet on a hot weather nature tour. Flip-flops and sandals are not recommended for any nature tour as they can slip and cause you to trip. They also offer very little protection. Bring light colored socks and comfortable walking shoes. Make sure the walking shoes are not brand new, which can cause painful blisters. If you are walking through the woods in a tropical area, your feet may need protection from insect bites, sharp brush and yes, even snakes. If you are walking deep into the woods, it's recommended you tuck your pants into your socks to keep ticks away.

  4. Cold Weather Nature Tours

  5. Step 1

Dress in layers for a cold weather nature tour. By layering your clothing you can stay warm, and you can remove layers as it gets too warm for you. Depending on where the nature tour is headed and the time of year, you may need to dress for winter.

  6. Step 2

Begin with the old fashioned "long johns" or insulated underwear. Next, add a long sleeve tee shirt followed by a sweatshirt, sweater and coat. Women can wear leotards under the "long johns", then a pair of leggings and finally a good pair of water-resistant pants.

  7. Step 3

Protect your extremities by wearing a hat. Earmuffs protect the ears but most of your body heat is lost from the head. Wear a scarf around your neck, which you can also use to cover your face if needed. Fur lined gloves or mittens protect your hands. Buy special waterproof socks and bring extra pairs with you on your cold weather nature tour. Wear waterproof boots to protect your feet.
