Cabin fever has taken hold in the classroom. The kids are restless, having a tough time concentrating on their regular studies. Introduce a lesson plan for your kindergarten class that will grab their attention and let everyone join in the fun while learning about spring.

From Quick Guide: Starting Kindergarten
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Search for words associated with springtime. Kindergarten students aren't quite ready to read, but they can use a word search to spot letters in succession. Make your word search simple and large enough for your students to spot a few words without too much trouble. Use 4- or 5-letter words.

  2. Step 2

Start garden journals for the kids. Using colored cardboard covers and attaching them with yarn strung through punched holes, help the kindergarten students create their journal by searching seed and plant magazines, cutting out photographs of flowers, bushes and birds and pasting the items into their journals.

  3. Step 3

Use spring flowers in vases for math. Filled with blooms, real or fake, you can choose different colored flowers and ask the students to sort them by color or type. Ask the children which vase has the most and which has the least.

  4. Step 4

Create a chart detailing the things that happen in the spring. You can introduce a reading lesson plan by demonstrating the events in nature that signify spring is here such as flowers, showers, birds and early blooms. Make a row for each with a descriptive sentence and paste a picture of the corresponding event.
