How to Perform an Arabesque
An arabesque is a common dance move that you'll definitely see performed if you go to a live ballet. An arabesque is an intermediate dance move and, like most ballet moves, requires an intricate blend of flexibility, balance, and strength.

Identify one wall as your "audience" and turn 90 degrees to your right.

Stand with your heels touching and the toes of each foot pointed outward to a 45-degree angle.

Place your right leg in front of you, leading with your big toe.

Keep your right arm outstretched in front of you at shoulder height.

Shift your weight to the ball of your foot.

Raise your weight slowly to the ball of your right foot.

Lift your left leg at the same time you shift your weight to your right leg.

Stretch your right arm up above shoulder height and hold your left arm backward at shoulder height at a 45-degree angle to the center of your body,

Continue to lift your left leg until it is slightly above hip level.

Keep your knee straight and facing the wall you designated as the "audience."

Make sure the big toe of your left foot is pointing toward the ceiling, especially when your left leg reaches the highest point. Don't droop your foot toward the floor.

Lower your left leg towards the ground and cross your left leg in front of your right leg while bringing your weight back to your right leg.

Perform an arabesque on the left side by reversing the above steps.
