How to Win a Geography Bee
Each year schools across the country host Geography Bees. In order to win a Geography Bee it takes a specific set of academic skills and knowledge, and each local Geography Bee usually leads up to the larger National Geographic Bee. Being prepared goes a long way to helping you win a Geography Bee.

Be a student in 4th through 8th grades. These are the only eligible grades for the National Geographic Bee.

Participate in a school-level Geography Bee with your local school or home school association. The school or home school association must be registered with the National Geography Bee.

Familiarize yourself with information contained on the National Geographic website, the sponsor of the National Geographic Bee.

Read materials prepared by the National Geographic Society or other providers. The National Geographic Bee official study guide is one good example. The Geography Bee Complete Preparation Handbook is another great resource that includes over 1,000 questions and answers.

Learn geography-related facts for not only the U.S. but also the world. Spend every free minute studying geography.

Devise a study plan, possibly up to one full year in advance. Include different topics that you plan to tackle and provide yourself small rewards as you meet your goals.

Go watch a Geography Bee live whether it's a local bee or the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. This will be a great source of motivation to keep you focused as you prepare yourself to compete in a Geography Bee.
