Exfoliating the skin is an important part of skincare. Although dead skin cells shed naturally every about 3 weeks, exfoliation with a body brush may help along the process and help rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. There are many body brushes available, and the steps below offer some suggestions for choosing one to exfoliation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a body brush that you can use on dry or wet skin. You usually exfoliate from the feet up with a dry brush and then follow with a moisturizer of your choice. You can also exfoliate in the shower with your brush and a skin care scrub.

  2. Step 2

Select a brush to exfoliate the skin that has a mixture of long and short bristles for exfoliating different areas of the body. The longer bristles offer a gentler exfoliation for more tender areas.

  3. Step 3

Look for a natural fiber body brush, such as sisal, hemp, jute, loofah, goat or boar bristle. Natural bristles are more compatible with the skin and are less abrasive than synthetic fibers.

  4. Step 4

Buy a body brush that's durable and long lasting. A good body brush will probably last 6 months with the proper care. A long handle or double handled brush is useful to reach the back, and the ergonomic handles are good if you suffer from arthritis or other issues affecting your ability to grip a regular handle.

  5. Step 5

Clean your skin care brushes after every use. Some brushes are hand held and flexible, allowing them to be machine washed and dried. If it isn't machine washable and dryable, wash it by hand and allow it to air dry to prevent bacteria and mold from forming.
