Instructions

    • 1

Using a measuring tape, measure around your waist where you want the top of your jeans to sit. For example, if you like them low, measure below your belly button.

    • 2

Measure the rise, the distance between the closure of your jeans to the bottom of the crotch of the jeans.

    • 3

Measure the inseam, the distance from the crotch of the jeans to the bottom of the jean leg.

    • 4

Compare your measurements to the size charts of jean manufacturers to get an idea of what sizes to look for at the store.

    • 5

Choose a style of jean that fits your body type. If you have narrow hips, pick straight leg or skinny jeans. If you have curvy hips, go for boot-cut or flared jeans.

    • 6

When you try the jeans on, make sure you can fit your thumb into the waistband to account for more comfort when seated and possible shrinkage.

    • 7

Examine the length of the jeans. Ideally, the hem will fall right to the bottom of the back of your shoe. Skinny jeans or jeans you'll wear with sandals may hit higher, closer to the ankle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember all brands run in different sizes. Just because your waist measurement does not match the size tag on the jean does not mean they won't fit.
