How to Care for Hair in Summer
Summer humidity, sun and swimming all make for challenging hair days. Humidity can turn naturally curly hair into a frizzy nightmare. Sunlight can cause color-treated hair to fade. Swimming in chlorine and seawater can cause brittle, damaged hair. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Limit shampooing to every other day or longer to prevent hair from drying out. Use a shampoo designed to remove chlorine, minerals and salt deposits after swimming.
-
2
Control frizzy hair by applying a leave-in or rinse-out conditioner after shampooing. A leave-in conditioner keeps hair protected when blow drying.
-
-
3
Perform deep conditioning as often as daily to repair damaged hair. Apply after shampooing and leave-in for as long as possible or as directed then rinse out. Cover the head with a shower cap and leave in as long as overnight.
-
4
Add moisture to hair with a "replenishment" hair care product after shampooing. Adding shine is not the same thing as moisture, so read the label carefully to make sure it has the benefits you need before buying.
-
5
Skip blow drying whenever possible and allow hair to air dry. Consider skipping hot styling tools such as a flat iron or curling iron. Braid wet hair and undo when dry to create beautiful waves without damaging hair.
-
6
Select hair products that protect colored hair from fading. Many shampoos, conditioners and sprays contain UV filters.
-
7
Cover your head with a hat in the sun to protect hair and scalp. Applying sunscreen to hair and scalp is the next best alternative to a hat.
