The key to developing effective striking techniques is an understanding range and what techniques can be used to control range in certain situations. The techniques are taught individually, but should be approached as a whole fighting strategy. Striking cannot be learned overnight, but taught effectively strikes can be a valuable offensive weapon and a method for honing aggressiveness in students.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Jab with your lead hand to control range and to set up follow-on punches, by snapping your hand out with a slight pivot of your hip and shoulder.
Step2
Snap your arm back and flow into another strike after your jab.
Step3
Throw a reverse punch to get the most out of your striking attacks. The reverse punch begins by pivoting on the ball of your rear foot so that your shoulders and hips turn toward the enemy, rotate your fist as you strike so that your knuckles are up and your palm faces down.
Step4
Perform a hook from the basic stance; begin by pivoting on the ball of your front foot. Turn your hips and shoulders to the inside while raising your elbow so that the punch lands with your arm parallel to the ground.
Step5
Bend your knees and drive your fist up into your opponent to throw an uppercut.
Step6
Stop a charging opponent with elbow strikes to the throat, face and shoulders.
