Having your neck wrapped in the arms of vengeful opponent can be a very bad day in this topsy-turvy game we call life. Defending against a head-lock or guillotine choke has never been easier if you make use of the simple yet powerful techniques taught in Modern Army Combatives.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Reach over your enemy's opposite shoulder with your arm when you find yourself caught in a guillotine choke or head-lock.
Step2
Turn your head inward and grab his choking arm with your free hand to alleviate pressure on your throat.
Step3
Bounce around to the opposite side from the choke when your opponent lifts up to choke you.
Step4
Break your enemy's base by bumping the back of his knee with your knee.
Step5
Lower your opponent carefully to the ground, be sure that you end up in the side control once he is on the ground.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your opponent is taller than you plant your knees on his thighs to help keep pressure off of your throat.
  • When practicing take downs both fighters should start on their knees to prevent injury.
  • Always keep your thumbs and fingers tucked to prevent an opponent from getting hold of one of these easy to break joints.
  • Take your time; Modern Army Combatives training stresses a walk before you run philosophy, so don't try to learn it all at once. Combatives should be learned along with a strong physical fitness program.
