Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Buy a sound card even if your mother board comes with one. Most motherboards come with a built in sound card, but for the best quality music, you should purchase a separate one. You'll need a 64-bit sound card with a signal-to-noise ratio of 80dB or higher.
Step2
Get speakers with Dolby surround sound. Also, look for speakers with a subwoofer. Surround sound combined with a subwoofer gets you close to the sound which comes out of a good stereo.
Step3
Add a lot of memory. If you plan to listen to music on your PC while you do other things, you'll need at least 1 GB of RAM. If you go with less than 1 GB of RAM your PC may be sluggish while multitasking. If you will not do anything else while listening to music, you can get by with 512 MB of RAM.
Step4
Consider a big monitor. This cannot help the quality of the music, but a big display will allow you to have an MP3 player and other documents on the screen simultaneously. This can save you having to switch back and forth between applications. For this convenience, get at least a 19 inch monitor.
Step5
Look for a mouse with programmable buttons. The standard two buttons will get you by, but mice which have extra buttons can be programmed to run an MP3 player, allowing you to navigate through songs by clicking a few buttons.
Step6
Base your processor speed on other things. The processor speed won't affect the music performance of your PC, so get as fast of a processor as you need for other work.
