It is a good idea to do all of your eBay communication though "My Messages." Using their message system is a good way for you to determine if an email really originated from eBay or is sent by an outside source in an attempt to gain access to your private information. If the email does not exist in your "My Messages" folder it is not a legitimate eBay message.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Add a link to "My Messages" to your "My eBay" page if it is not already there. To do this, click on "My Summary" on the left side of your "My eBay" page and then choose "customize summary" at the top of the page. Select "My Messages" and click on the button with the arrows pointing to the left. Choose the "Save" Button and the link will appear on your page.
Step2
Check your messages by clicking on the "My Messages" link every time you go to your "My eBay" page to see if you have any new messages to read.
Step3
Organize your messages by setting up folders and filing those that you wish to save. You can have up to ten file folders in addition to the ones that eBay has set up for you.
Step4
Reply to messages through the eBay message system. Every time you reply to a message two copies will be sent out. One copy will go to the recipients "My Messages" file and the other copy will go to the email address that the recipient has on file will eBay.
Step5
Delete messages when you are done with them if you do not wish to save them so your "My Messages" doesn't get over full.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any time you need to communicate with another eBay member it is a good idea to do it through "My Messages". This way there will be a copy of the message on file with eBay in the event of a problem later where you need to prove communication.
