The pearlized look of these eggs are festive in the Easter tradition but also have a more refined look. They are easy to make with real eggs. All you need is a nail and a little blowing and you can easily clear out the inside of the eggs so that you have the shell ready to be painted.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eggs
  • Tiny Nail
  • Bowl
  • Pearlized Acrylic Paints
  • Paper Plate
  • Sponge
  1. Step 1

Poke a hole in two ends of your eggs with the nail. The smaller that you can make this hole, the less obvious it will be.

  2. Step 2

Blow gently though one of the holes on the end of the egg. This will force the insides of the egg out the other hole. You will need to break the egg yoke with the nail so that it will come out the hole.

  3. Step 3

Pour small amounts of paint onto the paper plate.

  4. Step 4

Take the sponge and gently dab it in paint and then carefully sponge paint the eggs. You can use one color or several different colors to achieve a more subtle look. For a bolder sponged on look use the sponge dry. If you want a softer look to your eggs, then soak the sponge in water until it's saturated and squeeze out the excess water and then begin painting the eggs.

  5. Step 5

Allow your eggs to dry completely on another paper plate. When they are dry, they're ready to be displayed around your home.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't want to paint your eggs year after year, try using unpainted ceramic eggs. They will have the same look without being as delicate as the real eggs.
  • Use three or more color combinations to create a interesting, subtle color change in your eggs. A few great color combinations are: yellow, white, and pink; yellow, white, and green; pink, white, and lavender; lavender, white, and blue; and blue, white, and green.
  • This method of making Easter eggs is not intended for eggs being used for consumption. Acrylic paint can cause health problems especially in young children. Use this method for display eggs only.
