Add creative designs to your Easter eggs through the craft of decoupage, which is French for "cut." You can use items that you may have handy at home, such as acrylic paint, wrapping paper or stationery, to create your own unique designs or background colors on your Easter eggs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eggs
  • Decorations
  • Glue
  • Toothpick
  • Paper towel
  • Acrylic paint
  • Sponge brush
  • Gloss sealer
  • Plastic foam
  • Paintbrush
  • Gold findings
  1. Step 1

Cut an image out of wrapping paper, stationery or another piece of material that you're using as a decoration. Glue the images onto the eggs, and use a toothpick to flatten out any wrinkles on the images. Use a paper towel to wipe off any excess glue.

  2. Step 2

Pick an acrylic paint of your favorite color and apply it to your eggs. Let the paint dry for about a few hours.

  3. Step 3

Apply the gloss sealer onto your eggs with a sponge brush. Add a second coating, then let the eggs dry. Cut six-inch squares of plastic foam, and stick a dowel or a similar object into the center of each square. This will be a base to hold the egg along with some masking tape.

  4. Step 4

Use a small paintbrush to add embellishments to your eggs, such as glitter. Wait for the eggs to dry again before finishing your decoupage.

  5. Step 5

Remove the eggs from the plastic foam base. Glue gold findings or other pieces to cover the holes that are left on the ends of the eggs.

Tips & Warnings
  • As an option, drain the whites and yolks of your Easter eggs before decorating them. Leaving only the shells will allow the decoupage eggs to last longer. You'll need a small drill to make small holes at both ends of the egg. Use an ear syringe to force the contents out, and drain into a bowl.
  • You can also decorate your eggs using colored hole punches or tissue paper. Use a paper punch to create the small circles, or cut pieces of the tissue paper. Put gloss sealer over the designs to smooth them out and allow them to stick to the eggs.
