Instructions

    • 1

      Wash and detangle your hair.

    • 2

Divide your hair with a rat-tail comb so there is one long, thin row in the center of your head from the forehead to the nape of your neck.

    • 3

Grab the hair in this row and divide it in two even sections. Place the left section over the right and pull slightly to keep the twist close to your head. Repeat, always placing the left section over the right.

    • 4

Pick up additional strands of hair as you go so you will always have enough hair to twist. Keep the sections even.

    • 5

Secure the end with a hair band. Take care to use one that won't cause your hair to break.

    • 6

Make additional twists by reparting the hair parallel to the first row. On the sides of your head the twists will curve.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a little hair gel to help your twists last longer.

  • If you prefer, twist your hair only to the crown of your head and secure with bobby pins. Leave the rest of the hair loose or curl it.

  • Don't make the twists too tight or you may suffer hair loss.

  • If you leave the twists in too long, they may start to lock. Take them down every week or so if you don't want dreadlocks.
