Style Hair with Two Strand Twists

Two strand twists is an easy and attractive way to style your hair. It is an old style, sometimes called Senegalese twists, and is remarkably flexible. While you hair is twisted, you can still pull your hair up for a more formal style, pin up just the sides, or leave it as is until you wash your hair next. And, unlike dreadlocks, you can simply untwist your hair without having to cut the twists out.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Comb (rat tail comb works best)
    • Wide toothed comb
    • Spray bottle with water (if needed)
    • Elastics or colorful ribbons
    • Hair clips
      • 1

Collect your tools and have your subject sit on a low stool before you. Make sure the hair is damp, clean and brushed.

      • 2

Decide where you wish to have the parts. You can have more than one part, such as two that intersect in the back making an x, another that runs from ear to ear, and a fourth in the front.

      • 3

Draw your first part with your comb, and check for straightness. If the part is not straight, you can use the end of the comb to gently move more hair over to correct it. Use hair clips to draw the rest of the hair away.

      • 4

Make additional parts in the sections you desire, securing each section of hair with hair clips. Continue until all of the parts are drawn on the head.

      • 5

Remove one of the clips and secure the hair with an elastic. Be careful not to make the elastic too tight that it might damage the hair, ruining the style, but not too loose that the ponytail will look sloppy or the hair will come out.

      • 6

Divide the ponytail in half, and make sure that the ponytail is divided evenly. Use the end of your comb to aid you. Take a strand of each hair in your hands, and slowly twist them over the other until the very end of the hair. If necessary, add an elastic to secure the end.

Repeat this process with the rest of the head. Once you are done, you can add colorful ribbons or elastics for a decorative effect.
