How to Get RYA Yachtmaster Certification

The RYA Yachtmaster certification course provides sailing students with a comprehensive yacht handling program. 1. Beef up your sailing skills. While there are no prerequisites for entering the Yachtmaster course, the RYA examiner will give you an honest appraisal of your chances of completing the course and exams on the basis of your skills. 2. Do the theory course. The RYA Yachtmaster theory certificate is a required part of the certification process. Doing the theory in advance of the practical significantly reduces the amount of time you need to spend in the course. You can do the theory course at any of the RYA training centers.

3. Practice man overboards. One of the most heavily tested parts of the Yachtmaster course and exam process is the man overboard drill. 4. Take the practical. Once you're confident in your skills and background, sign up for the Yachtmaster course and examination. You need to set aside five days or three weekends to complete the course.
