Weight lifting is a good form of exercise that builds up your body and strengthens your bones. What you wear when you are weight lifting is important and affects how you lift.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dress comfortably if you are doing light reps. Wearing a loose-fitting t-shirt and sweats allows you the freedom of movement you need while not restricting you. Comfortable shoes are also a must. You must be able to concentrate on what you are doing without being distracted by shoes that are pinching your feet.

  2. Step 2

Take into account sweat as you lift heavier weights. Cotton, as a material, tends to absorb moisture and hold it, making you susceptible to chills should a fan be blowing in the gym. Wearing shirts made of polypropylene would be good, as the fabric wicks the moisture away from your skin and allows you to stay warm. These shirts are available at stores like Sports Authority.

  3. Step 3

Consider wearing weight lifting gloves. Weight lifting gloves allows you to concentrate on your grip and technique, and can save you from grip fatigue and strained muscles. Weight lifting gloves made of a material like neoprene can help in the same fashion as polypropylene shirts in that they whisk moisture away from the skin.

  4. Step 4

Wear a weight lifting belt if you are consistently lifting heavy weights. Weight belts have been proven to help decrease lower back injury. However, you must be sure not to wear your belt too tightly as it can increase blood pressure.

  5. Step 5

Study the regulations regarding bench press shirts in the area in which you intend to lift weights, and add a bench press shirt to your wardrobe. Bench press shirts can be made of polyester, denim, and canvas, and help to protect the shoulders and pectorals while lifting heavy weights. The International Weight Lifting Federation website can help you find that dress information.

  6. Step 6

Add wrist wraps when you are lifting heavy weights. These can help protect and support your wrists. You can find these at sports equipment stores or online at APT Pro Gear.

  7. Step 7

Consider other wraps for your elbows and knees if you are lifting heavy weights. These also can be found at sports equipment stores or online.
