How to Make an Eggshell Plant Pot
Eggshell plant pots are a whimsical way to welcome the coming of spring. They require only a few minutes of your time and some ordinary craft supplies to create, and they are easy enough for young children. Eggshell plant pots make a wonderful gift for Easter, Mother's Day, or Earth Day; or as place markers or prizes at your next spring get together.

1
Make the pot by cracking a large egg about a quarter of the way down from the top. Tap it gently against a bowl or counter edge. Empty the egg into a bowl and set it aside or store it in the refrigerator. Rinse the shell and very gently dry it with a paper towel.
-
2
Create a base for the eggshell plant pots with short lengths of pipe cleaner. Form the pipe cleaners into circles and attach them to the bottom of the eggshells with craft glue or a hot glue gun.

-
3
Decorate the eggshell plant pots with markers, tempera paint, or acrylic craft paint. Allow the paint to dry completely to prevent smudging.
-
4
Fill the eggshells about halfway with the potting soil.
-
5
Plant a sprinkling of grass seeds or two beans to the potting soil. Cover them lightly with potting soil and sprinkle them with a small amount of water. The grass seed can take a week weeks to sprout, but the beans will poke through the potting soil in a couple of days.

6
Put the eggshell plant pots in a sunny place. Water them as needed and don't let them get too dry.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have a pipe cleaner, cardboard can be used for the base of the egg shell plant pots. Just cut a small strip and attach it to the shells with craft glue or a hot glue gun.
Always supervise young children if you decide to use a hot glue gun when making eggshell plant pots.
