1
Combine the sugars with the egg white in a mixing bowl. Mix the three ingredients until they begin to stick together. Add food color, if you like.
-
2
Stuff the sugar into each half of the Easter-egg mold. Pack it tight. Make sure there are no air holes. Fill the egg mold to the top edge, and make sure it is level.

3
Unmold the eggs quickly onto a plate or other flat surface. With a sharp knife, cut off one end of the egg to make the "peep hole."
-
4
Let the unmolded eggs air dry at least three hours or longer. When they feel dry to the touch on the outside, gently pick them up. Use a spoon to scrape away the damp sugar on the inside. Let the egg shell dry even more.
-
5
Make the royal icing. Mix the powdered sugar, cream of tartar, and egg whites with a mixer until very stiff. Color as desired.
-
6
Place icing in pastry bags. Add selected icing tips. Put a dollop of icing inside one egg shell. Add a picture facing toward the "peep hole."
-
7
Run a bead of icing around the edge of the egg. Place another egg shell on top to form a complete egg. Finish decorating the egg as desired.
