House plants should be cleaned and dusted, just like any other item in your home. The leaves of house plants quickly collect a layer of dust and lose their luster; however, it can be difficult to clean the gentle greenery with regular dusting methods. A banana peel is the perfect tool for cleaning house plants, as the peel is a natural moisturizer and fertilizer that will easily and gently remove dust, leaving your plant with a healthy shine.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Peel a ripe banana and enjoy the tasty fruit. The more moisture the better, so choose a fully ripe banana with a soft skin.

  2. Step 2

Cut the ends off of the peel with a sharp knife or a pair of scissors and discard the stem and base. Cut the banana skin into small easy to use squares.

  3. Step 3

Clean your house plants by gently rubbing the inside of the peel along leaves and greenery. You do not have to use much pressure, as the banana will quickly and easily lift the dust from the surface. Be careful not to break or damage the delicate greenery.

  4. Step 4

Replace your banana peel with a fresh piece when it becomes too thin or begins to shed. Save the used banana peel and bury them under the soil around your flowers. Banana peels make a great fertilizer, particularly for roses, as they are rich in potassium and phosphorus.

  5. Step 5

Wipe any excess juice or fine pieces of peel with a soft cloth if necessary. Leave the juice to dry on the leaves as it keeps the greenery shining longer and will add a delicate fruity smell to your home.
