How to Get the Kids Off to School Each Morning

Mornings are crazy enough when getting the kids all off to school without one of them going into a panic because they can't remember where they left their shoes. We've all been there more often than not and know that it's like running a marathon each morning just to get everybody out of the door. The key to getting the kids off to school smoothly is organization.

Instructions

  1. The Night Before

    • 1

Organize the children's clothes and shoes. Let them pick them out and put those clothes in a special spot in their room so in the morning they can go right to them.

    • 2

Check backpacks and folders as soon as they get home. That way you will know what papers need your signature and what homework assignments they have.

    • 3

Set aside a time for homework each night when the television and game consoles are turned off.

    • 4

Place all the books and finished homework in their backpacks and put them by the front door.

    • 5

Pack lunches that night. A designated "sack lunch" bowl or basket is a good idea. Ahead of time, separate snacks into smaller plastic bags that are easy to grab. Keep a loaf of bread and their favorite sandwich stables like peanut butter and honey in there so when you make lunches all you have to do is grab the basket and all the supplies are there. This will also keep the lunch snacks and at home snacks separate so you won't be caught off guard when the supplies need to be replenished.

    • 6

Have a bedtime. The kids will do better in the morning and at school if they have had sufficient rest.

    That Morning

    • 7

Get up earlier than the kids. If the parent has a bit of time for herself in the morning, generally the kids will follow suit.

    • 8

Make sure the kids eat breakfast. Whether it is something you prepare or cereal and milk, kids are better able to learn and have more energy for school if they have breakfast.

    • 9

Keep the Television off in the morning. No distractions from what needs to be done and if everything has been prepared the following evening, mornings with the kids can be one of the most pleasant times of the day. Without the TV and most of the work completed, you may find some great bonding moments over breakfast.
