Ordinary kitchen utensils can become extraordinary decorations to spruce up any kitchen. Mismatched silverware can take on new life as wall hangings and chandeliers, while antique plates make lovely additions to plate shelves. Think outside the box when finding new ways to use old utensils.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Collect mismatched silverware from your kitchen drawers. Drill small holes in the handles of ten pieces of silverware close in size and attach them with wire hooks to a hanging lamp for a utensil chandelier. Just use any hanging lamp that has a metal or wire circle as its base.

  2. Step 2

Use remaining pieces for interesting wall art. Purchase inexpensive shadow box frames at your local craft store and attach silverware in unusual arrangements. Use hot glue or liquid nails to secure the pieces before adding the frame. Choose background colors to match your kitchen's décor.

  3. Step 3

Purchase antique plates from resale shops, antique stores or collect from family members. Hang them with plate hangers or arrange on plate shelves above cabinets.

  4. Step 4

Think about items that can be transformed into candle holders or votives for around the kitchen. Graters, strainers, ramekins or jelly jars are all good choices.

  5. Step 5

Replace your kitchen clock hands with larger utensils for an updated timepiece. Wooden spoons are great for this as they are light weight and can easily be glued to existing clock hands or drilled and attached directly to the clock.

  6. Step 6

Turn a bread basket or strainer basket into an over the sink lamp. Simply remove your existing lamp covering, cut or drill a hole in the bottom of the strainer and slide it over your light bulb where the shade used to be.

Tips & Warnings
  • Think creatively when looking around your kitchen and come up with your own original uses for worn utensils. Old salt shakers, cookie cutters, cutting boards and things you haven't used in a while can all be transformed into unique decorations.
