How to Judge a Person by Their Handshake

A successful handshake can be mastered through practice, and can make all the difference in a social or professional situation.

Instructions

    • 1

Notice how much hand goes into the handshake. Be sure to exude confidence by putting the whole hand into it. A shake that uses the fingers only gives off a fear of intimacy and lack of sincerity or interest.

    • 2

Pay attention to the temperature of the hand. If it is cold and clammy, the person is probably nervous and full of fear. This handshake portrays a shy person lacking confidence.

    • 3

Look at the position of the hand in comparison to yours. If the hand is on top of yours with palm down, it can mean a feeling of superiority and dominance in the situation.

    • 4

    • 5

Feel for dryness in the hands. Sweaty palms give away feelings of anxiety, discomfort in social situations, and once again shyness. Dryness, on the other hand, gives the feeling of confidence, comfort and control of the situation.

    • 6

Do not move too much or too little. The person that moves less during the greeting is usually the dominant or superior person in the situation. Moving too little, however can be insulting in a condescending way,
