Things You'll Need:
- Paper plates, tissue paper, buttons, beads, stickers and yarn.
- Colored macaroni or other pasta, hard candy jelly beans.
- White craft glue or a glue stick.
- Hole punch and stapler.
-
Step 1
Punch two holes at opposite ends of the plate and thread the yarn through long enough to tie around the child's chin.
-
Step 2
Place the decorating items out for the child to choose from.
-
Step 3
Give the child some prompting to try making handmade flowers out of tissue paper. Teach them how to twist and pull the tissue as you would for a float in a parade. If the child is decorating the hat completely in tissue flowers you may want to use hot glue instead of white glue. Don't allow the child to use the hot glue.
-
Step 4
Use food colored macaroni or other pasta and glitter. Large beads can be strung together and tied through hole punches on the border of the hat so that some of the craft work hangs down. The child can also thread beads on the yarn that ties the hat to their head.
-
Step 5
Stick to easy decorations like stickers or glue stuck construction paper for younger children.
