Dyeing eggs with tissue paper makes egg dyeing a whole new ball game. Tissue paper eggs are less messy than traditional egg dyeing and allow for intricate designs. Depending on the complexity of the design, this process can take up to an hour per egg.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Moltted eggs

Step1
Boil eggs for 15 minutes. Rinse the eggs in cold water and let them cool. Take out any eggs that are cracked and set them aside for another use.
Step2
Lay out a large square of plastic wrap. Layer several one inch squares of tissue paper on the plastic.
Step3
Wet the egg with a paper towel and wrap it in the tissue covered plastic. Unwrap the egg and set it aside to dry.

Designed eggs

Step1
Draw the design on a blank piece of paper. Trace the design onto tissue paper. Cut the designs out.
Step2
Rub the egg with a wet paper towel. Set the wet egg on a piece of bubble wrap.
Step3
Lay each piece of the design on the wet egg. Press a moist paper towel on the tissue paper.
Step4
Remove the paper towel and the tissue paper. Discard the old papers.
Step5
Add more designs and details, setting each with a paper towel, until the egg is completed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Protect your work surface by covering it with butcher or newspaper.
  • Add details to the finished eggs with glitter glue and/or markers.
  • Gift wrap tissue paper is color fast and does not leave a dye print on the eggs.
