National Pig Day is held March 1 of each year. The holiday is not yet official. That means that Congress has not declared it so, but we can still celebrate pigs for a day. Where would we have gotten the "pigsty" phrase and "don't eat like a pig" phrase if we didn't have pigs? So celebrate a pig on March 1.

1
Visit a pig farm. Pigs are raised for a variety of reasons. Go search the local pig farms to find out what they do with pigs near you. Visit a zoo if there are no farms near you. Or, check out Pick Your Own Fruit's website and search for a farm that also has a petting zoo.

2
Eat pigs in a blanket. Wrap sausage, or its non meat alternative, in a pancake. Add syrup and munch. For lunch, wrap a hot dog in a crescent roll, cook and eat. Add some slop if you really want to feel like a pig.
-
3
Make pig crafts. Make a pig tail with pink construction paper. Cut the paper in a circle around and around until you reach the center. Play pin the tail on the pig or just wear your tail for a day. Make a pig headband with a headband, hot glue gun and pink felt. Decorate with sequins or glitter. You are now officially a pig for a day.

4
Save a pig. Join PETA and get the word out that pigs are friends and not food. PETA suggests that the best way to save a pig is to stop eating pig products. Switch instead to alternatives such as Tofu Pups, Gardenburger's Riblets, Fakin' Bacon and Yves deli slices. Celebrate the pig today.
