Driving a motorcycle in the rain is tricky and requires a lot of concentration and skill. The last thing a motorcycle rider needs is to be showered with a tsunami as you blow past him on the highway. To keep everyone safe, follow these steps to pass a motorcycle in the rain.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look to your right and to your left before passing a motorcycle in the rain. Be sure there are no other vehicles around and you have plenty of room and time to pass the motorcycle. The more room you can leave between your vehicle and the motorcycle, the less chance there'll be for you to kick up a possibly blinding rain splash.

  2. Step 2

Put your blinker on before passing a motorcycle. You may want to do this well in advance to give the cyclist time to notice your move. Doing this ahead of time will prepare the cyclist for any unwanted water from the road that may spray onto them.

  3. Step 3

Make a wide pass when you are passing the motorcycle. Give plenty of room between you and them while passing to ensure they see you and are aware that you are passing. Take your time and give distance between you and the cyclist.

  4. Step 4

Pass the motorcycle with caution. Do not pass too closely and do not honk your horn or yell out anything to the cyclist as this may disturb them and cause the driver to lose control of the motorcycle.

  5. Step 5

Establish distance between your vehicle and the motorcycle when moving back into the original lane. Be sure you have enough space between you and the cyclist before entering the lane once more. You do not want the motorcycle to have to brake suddenly or make any unnecessary turns in the rain.
