How to Make an Edible Easter Basket

What better surprise to offer the kiddies Easter mornings than an Easter basket filled to the rim with all kinds of their favorite candies. Even better, make it a homemade basket filled with candies you make yourself. And while you're at it, how about letting them devour the basket too. You don't need much time or money to make an edible Easter basket. Just try not to eat the results.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather a couple of waffle style sundae bowls, a few strands of red licorice, a bunch of jelly beans, some melted chocolate and a cup or so of coconut tinted with green food coloring.

  2. Step 2

Place each waffle bowl on a plate and use the melted chocolate to attach the licorice to the waffle bowls as handles. Wait a few minutes to give the chocolate time to harden a bit. Sprinkle coconut around the bottom of the baskets; add jelly beans and all the favorite Easter candies.

  3. Step 3

Design a frozen Ice Cream Duckling for your basket. Scoop out some vanilla ice cream onto a paper cupcake liner, then make the neck by scooping out more ice cream on top of that and flattening it a bit with a spoon. Place another small scoop of ice cream on top of that to serve as the head, use chocolate chips or raisins for the eyes, a shelled peanut for a beak and dried apricots for the little webbed feet. Keep frozen until right before placing into the basket.

  4. Step 4

Add in some homemade Styrofoam eggs. No, you can't eat the eggs, but they're lots of fun to decorate with (older) child-safe edible items, such as jelly beans, raisins, grapes and cheese.

Tips & Warnings
  • To give your kids something to enjoy after all the goodies are gone, be sure to add a small stuffed animal and/or book into their edible Easter basket.
