How to Make a Paper Plate Easter Bonnet

Making a paper plate Easter bonnet is fun for children and adults as well. Children may find this activity entertaining especially before beginning an Easter egg hunt. Create a bonnet using the following steps. Use your imagination to add various materials and designs.

Things You'll Need:

• Paper plates
• Markers or crayons
• Ribbon
• Scissors
• Glue
• Construction paper
• Glitter

1. Cut out different sizes and shapes in construction paper such as circles, squares, swirls and stars. Draw designs with crayons or markers on the shapes if desired. Place these away from the work area to be sure none are lost.

2. Choose colors and textures of ribbon, cutting different lengths. Tie these together or braid them, making various designs for the bonnet. Or you may choose to let them hang freely from the plate.

3. Decide if you want any extra designs or materials such as lacing or netting. This material can be used as a veil that is placed over the bonnet and covers the face of the person wearing it. Fake flowers and grass may also want to be added.

4. Draw designs on the paper plate, using your imagination. Use glue to add the veil, paper designs and ribbon or you may punch holes on the sides of the plate to lace the ribbon through. Swiping the ribbon with the edge of your scissors can add curl to the material.

5. Punch a hole on each side of the plate and cut a piece of ribbon in your choice of color. Be sure this is long enough to lace through each side of the bonnet and tie under the chin. If adding confetti or glitter, place this on the bonnet as the last step and let dry before the bonnet is worn.
