Step 1
Decide on the time and the place where the chili cook-off will be held. Make reservations with the facility ahead of time if need be. Ask about their rental fee and the hours of operation.
-
Step 2
Create flyers or a newsletter to be mailed or sent to the guests you have listed. Or post a notice around town, perhaps in the local paper or magazines regarding the cook-off. List the date, time, fees if applicable and details of the event. Be sure a number is available for any questions contestants may have.
-
Step 3
Ask local businesses to help with advertisement, raffle tickets and gift certificates for various prizes. Certain establishments may include radio and television stations, restaurants, clubs, clothing and accessory stores.
-
Step 4
Determine who will judge the chili. Ask friends, neighbors or even the local clergyman if they may be interested. Other possible judges are local celebrities, whose presence may generate more contestants.
-
Step 5
Inform contestants ahead of time when, where and what they need to bring for the cook-off. Usually bowls, napkins and spoons are provided by the host.
-
Step 6
Set the tables up on the day of the cook-off. Prepare labels for each contestant along with their details, original recipe and a number where they can be reached.
-
Step 7
Enjoy the chili cook-off. After the judges try each recipe, present appropriate prizes to the winners after the final decision is made. Offer chili to others who attended the event.
