Most everyone has had instances where they may had one drink too many but do not want to give the impression they are drunk. This is easier said than done. Acting sober takes more than just a bit of practice--there are rules to follow the next time you are confronted with a situation where you need to act sober.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep quiet but not too quiet. You have to regulate the amount of talking they do to act sober. If a person talks too much they will give the sobriety charade away for sure. However if you sit there saying next to nothing this can be a dead giveaway as well. So talk enough to be a part of the conservation but do not go on rants or make speeches. Also, talking too loudly is a clear indication that you have been overserved.

  2. Step 2

Stay as inactive as possible. In order to avoid the potential ambulatory pitfalls, a person acting sober must try to limit the amount of movement they make. Find a decently trafficked area and stay there. Do not hide away in a dark corner because that can be detrimental to the sober act as well.

  3. Step 3

Take shallow breaths. When a person takes deep breathes this make the blood flow increase and allows the alcohol in the blood stream to become more active.

  4. Step 4

Find a fixed point like a spot on the wall and concentrate on it. This keeps a person's equilibrium in check and keeps them in balance. However, do not stare too much at the fixed point because that will be a sign you aren't sober.

  5. Step 5

Use momentum when walking to maintain the illusion of sobriety, if a person slows down when walking it can lead to some missteps. Use momentum to keep moving forward to the intended destination.
