Step 1
Decide what style of bed skirt you prefer. The three types are ruffled, box pleated and tailored.
-
Step 2
Place the bed skirt on the box spring properly. Lift off the top mattress and spread out the bed skirt on the box spring. Bed skirts typically contain a flat, white fabric area that is the same size as your box spring. Sewn on three sides of the white fabric area, you'll find a ruffle or fabric that extends from only the three sides. Place the edge of the bed skirt that does not contain any fabric parallel to the headboard. The bed skirt should drape to the floor on both sides of the bed, as well as the bottom foot board.
-
Step 3
Choose a bed skirt to complete your bedspread or comforter ensemble. If you prefer a comforter for your bed, you'll need a bed skirt that drapes below the comforter and touches the floor. Bed skirts hide the space between your box spring and the floor and give your bed a finished look.
-
Step 4
Use a bed skirt to complete your bedroom décor. Decorate using a bed skirt for color or contrast. You can match or contrast your bed skirt with the fabric of the curtains, the headboard, the walls and most importantly, with your comforter.

Step 5
Purchase bed skirts for baby cribs and children's bedroom sets as well. Children's bed skirts can enhance a theme of colors and fun. Because they hide the space under the bed, your child will use this as a curtain to hide things. Don't forget to peek under the bed skirt when you've lost something.
