Keep your brick walls looking their absolute best. People do not realize that brick surfaces will dull over time with age. Bricks need a regular clean up to keep them looking fresh and new. It is easy to clean the brick surfaces. One of the benefits of having brick is the low cost to maintain them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bucket
  • Hose
  • Cleaning solution such as TSP
  • Stiff brush

Step1
Test the surface of the brick for water absorption before cleaning. Wet a small section of the wall with clean water. A garden hose works best. If the brick becomes saturated all at once (the brick color darkens and spreads immediately) clean one small section at a time.
Step2
Mix a cleaning solution with warm water. Household detergent does an excellent job at half the price of commercial cleaners. You can also use two pounds of trisodium phosphate (TSP) in a gallon of warm water to remove tough stains. TSP is available at most hardware stores.
Step3
Saturate the brick with water before using a cleaning solution. Use a hose or bucket of water and stiff brush.
Step4
Apply the cleaning solution to the brick wall with a stiff brush and scrub the brick. Clean one small section at a time.
Step5
Rinse the bricks thoroughly after cleaning. Use a garden hose if possible. Allow the brick to air dry.
