Egg shells make the perfect molds for egg candles. Egg candles are great for special Easter decorations or just to set around the house. Egg candles are easy to make and are a great project for small children. Make these in a variety of colors or in multi-colored layers for unusual homemade candles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large egg
  • Small pin
  • Small craft funnel, usually used for sand
  • Wick
  • Sauce pan
  • Colored wax or old candles
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Punch a small hole in the tip of the egg with the pin. Don't crack the egg, but be sure that the hole is large enough for the funnel to fit in.

  2. Step 2

Turn the egg upside down to drain the egg. If you need help draining the egg, use a toothpick to puncture the yolk.

  3. Step 3

Place the funnel into the hole and pour cold water into the egg to flush out any leftover egg yolk. Rinse the egg thoroughly and allow the egg to dry overnight.

  4. Step 4

Melt the wax in the sauce pan. The wax must be heated to 108 degrees. For multiple-colored layers, melt each color in a different sauce pan. Another option is to use old crayons to make the candle. Melt them as you would regular wax but remember to remove the paper around the crayon first.

  5. Step 5

Place the wick into the hole of the egg. Use the funnel to pour the wax into the egg. Leave 1/2 inch of the wick outside of the egg shell. Trim the wick if needed. For colored layers, put the colors in the egg in 15 minute increments. Allow the wax to form overnight or 12 hours.

  6. Step 6

Break the egg shell carefully. Remove the shell from the candle to revel your egg candle.
