When you purchase a carpet you will be offered a warranty. It's important to understand the terms, conditions and effectiveness of the warranty in the case that you need some carpet replaced or repaired. There are several factors to consider when examining the warranty.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read the warranty even if you have no intention of purchasing it. Higher end carpet will sometimes be accompanied by a longer term with better conditions.

  2. Step 2

Check for certain stipulations on wear and tear warranties. Some will only cover replacement if 10% of the carpet has been worn and then only that section. Keep in mind there is no guarantee the shades will match.

  3. Step 3

Understand the steps the stain warranty requires you to follow when you get a stain. You will also need to be ready to provide a sampling of the carpet.

  4. Step 4

Find out which stains are excluded on a stain warranty. You may find that those excluded stains are exactly the stains you're likely to get, especially if you are a pet owner or have children.

  5. Step 5

Read carefully what maintenance conditions there are. Many warranties require the carpet to be cleaned every two years with proof of receipt. Carpet stain protection and certain carpet cleaning detergents may void your warranty. Read carefully.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you decide to purchase the warranty make sure to use the carpet padding approved in the warranty for the carpet you chose.
