How to Install Plantation Shutters
Plantation shutters aren't very expensive in comparison to the beauty and convenience that they add to your home. Where you lose money is paying someone to install them for you. They aren't hard to install if you have a basic knowledge of tools. Follow these steps to learn how to install plantation shutters on your home. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Power drill
- Philips screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Small resin hammer
- Level
- Dap chalking
- Tin snips

Inside Mount

Center the Z-frame on the inside of the window. The plantation shutters panels should remain open while doing this.

Attach the frame to the casement using screws. Begin in the center, screw in the corners and add more screws within 30 inches of each other. If you use a T-post make sure to fasten the frame at the top of it.

Adjust the bottom of the frame so that the panels are aligned. When they are even attach the bottom of the frame to the window. Make sure the screws are matched up with the top frame.

Secure the side frames to the window. Insert screws into the pre-drilled holes on each hinge.

Snap in the filler strips. Mount the shutter magnets.
Outside Mount

Use a square frame for an outside mount if you don't have at least 1 1/2 inches of clearance in your window opening.

Decide where the frame will be positioned. Mark the location of the outside edges of the frame with a pencil.

Screw the top frame to the wall using the screw ports. Use the 3 inch screws so that they go through the aluminum reinforcement on the frame. Build out the frame using snap-ons if you have enough room.

Align the bottom panel with the top panel. When they are aligned then secure the bottom frame through the fabricated holes.

Install the side frames then snap in the filler and cover strips. Finally place the shutter magnets on.
