Instructions

    • 1

Use an embroiderer's hoop or sewer's frame for this type of work. Make sure to position the fabric as tightly as possible without distorting it.

    • 2

Work the thread up through the bottom of the fabric holding the needle with your dominant hand. Grab the thread with your other hand tightly enough to create a lot of tension.

    • 3

Hold the thread and loop it around the needle. Pull it down. Hold the loop tight and then put the needle through right next to the first stitch.

    • 4

Tug on the loop tightly and then place your thumb on the loop. Reach underneath with your other hand all pull the needle down and through.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pull on the thread in a slow and steady pull. Don't stop or you will lose the tension.

  • Don't pull the needle through too tightly on the last step or you'll unravel the knot.

  • The more you practice the easier it will get.

  • Once you have mastered the Paris Stitch you can try a Bullion or Coral Stitch for other types of knotted needlework.
