How to Fish a Jig and Pig
A jig and pig is a cold water bait used to catch bass during winter and autumn months. The jig is a head and hook and the pig is a trailer made of pork rinds or plastic. The jig and pig is made to look like a craw fish, which is a favorite food of bass.

1
Fish a jig and pig with a stiff fishing rod about 6-feet long. Use a heavy fishing line about 17 to 20 pounds; this bait is used to catch large bass that can break a lighter line.
-
2
Use a jig heavy enough to sink slowly to the bottom of the lake or river bed. This gives the bass just enough time to strike it before it fully sinks. Make sure that it is not too heavy that it falls too rapidly for the bass to notice.

3
Select a pig, or trailer, that matches the size of the jig. A 101 works well with a 1/8-ounce jig. Try a #1 or #10 for a 1/2-ounce jig.

4
Choose a pig that will gain attention from the bass. Try a pork rind frog. These are a hit with bass, but they can dry quickly so you will have to use them immediately.

5
Cast the jig and pig and let it sink in the water until it hits the bottom of the lake or river bed. Keep it on the bottom for a short time and imitate the movements of a craw fish by shaking the tip of the rod occasionally.
