1
Figure out how big a room you want to frame in your basement. Measure off of one wall and put a mark on the floor. Then go down the same wall with the same measurement and put your second mark on the floor. Chalk that line with a chalk box.
-
2
Go to the adjacent wall and repeat the process in Step 1. Check to make sure your room is squared by measuring diagonally.
-
3
Cut your floor plates out of 2-by-4s. Secure them to the floor on your chalk lines with cut nails or lead anchors.
-
4
Lay out your door opening where needed. Cut that out of your floor plates when you frame a basement. Cut your top plates to match your floor plates. Lay out your studs on 16-inch centers on your bottom and top floor plates.
-
5
Nail your studs to your top plate. Raise your walls. Now, secure them to the bottom plate. Plumb your walls and secure them to the floor joists of your home.
-
6
Finish framing your basement room by stripping your block or concrete walls with 1-by-4s. Apply a 1-by-4 on the bottom and the top of your wall. Add 1-by-4s on 16-inch centers across your walls. If you have windows, strip your block around them also so you can finish your windows.
