Nvwoti is a 4,000 year old system of Cherokee medicine which seeks to achieve a natural balance between human and earth. Part of the natural balance is controlling population growth through the use of natural contraceptives. These methods are not foolproof, though, and should only be used by people for whom STDs and the possibility of pregnancy are major concerns and then only after consulting with a physician.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ragleaf bahia tea
  • Dogbane or snakeroot tea
  • Blue cohosh tea
  • Pennyroyal tea
  1. Step 1

Boil the roots of ragleaf bahia in water for 30 minutes, drinking 1 cup of tea daily as a temporary contraceptive. Ragleaf bahia is an implantation inhibitor, preventing a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus. If you track your ovulation cycles, you might consider taking 2 cups each day during ovulation and taking a week long break from the tea during menstruation.

  2. Step 2

Take dogbane or snakeroot tea once a week to prevent pregnancy. From the same family, snakeroot and dogbane are Cherokee medicines that contain reserpine, a natural sedative and muscle relaxer that has been used to prevent unwanted pregnancy. This natural contraceptive is made by pouring 1 cup of boiling water over 2 tsp. of dried dogbane or snakeroot.

  3. Step 3

Drink blue cohosh tea three times a day, for six days. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over one tbsp. of powdered black cohosh and allowing the tea to steep for 10 or 15 minutes. This contraceptive method is meant to stop the egg from implanting and is administered when pregnancy may be possible, helping to bring menstruation. Do not drink the tea for longer than six days.

  4. Step 4

Make pennyroyal tea from 2 tbsp. of fresh or dried herbs per 1 cup of boiling water and allow the tea to steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink a cup of pennyroyal tea four times a day, for five days to prevent possible pregnancy and induce menstruation. Pennyroyal is an effective Cherokee medicine that relaxes the uterine muscles preventing implantation of the egg.
