How to Become a Hot Dog Vendor
Hot dogs are a favorite food among children and adults across the country. They are quick to make and not very expensive to buy. A hot dog vendor capitalizes on these features by selling hot dogs and snacks at sustainable markups that produce quick profits with little overheads.

1
Check with your local city hall to find out what permits are necessary to become a street vendor. Indicate that you want to sell other items such as snacks and soda, and purchase any permits required.
-
2
Visit the local department of health. You need a license to sell food and you will also be subject to health department inspections. Fill out whatever forms are necessary to obtain your board of health vendor license.

3
Purchase a hot dog cart that allows you to cook and sell enough frankfurters to make your business viable. Make sure it has enough storage for supplies, including napkins, snacks, mustard, relish, ketchup, buns, franks and any other condiments. You'll want a refrigerated section for cold drinks. A bun warmer would be a bonus.
-
4
Locate a corner to park your hot dog cart. Check city ordinances to make sure you are allowed to park in your designated place. Pick a heavy traffic area, but make sure it offers enough room to comfortably serve your customers.
-
5
Park your hot dog cart on private premises, such as high traffic strip malls, but first ask permission of the owner. Generally, it's not allowed unless you are willing to pay the owner a fee.
-
6
Sell your hot dogs, snacks and sodas. Keep the same hours every day because your customers can get used to buying from you.
