How to Build a Raptor Bird Perch
If you need rodent control on your property, then attract raptors by building a perch. During the winter and early spring, raptors don't have crops to provide ground cover for them while they hunt. If you build a raptor bird perch they will have a place to land and look for rodents without the risk of being attacked.
Things You'll Need
- 12-foot hollow metal pole
- 2-by-2 inches untreated pine, 2 feet
- Flat metal plate, 6 inches by 2 inches by 1/4 inch
- T-fence post, 6 feet
- Wood screws
- Nuts and bolts
Instructions
-
-
1
Drill holes 12 inches and 24 inches from the bottom of the metal pole. Attach the fence post to the hollow metal pole by slipping the post into the pole and securing it with bolts.
-
2
Weld the nuts and bolts to the metal pole. This will prevent the metal pole from slipping or rotating when the raptor perches on it.
-
-
3
Arc-weld the flat metal plate to the end of the metal pole. Drill 2 holes into it, and then bolt the untreated pine board through the holes. This gives the raptor a place to comfortably perch and look around for danger.
-
4
Drive the fence post 3 feet into the ground. It must be perfectly vertical. Coat the bolts with grease to prevent rust.
-
5
Cement the pole into the ground. Allow it to set for 2 days.
-
6
Inspect the raptor bird perch. It should be about 12 feet high after it is constructed to protect the raptor.
