Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the crayon wrappers and discard them. Lay out a large sheet of waxed paper.

  2. Step 2

Sharpen the crayons in a pencil sharpener over the waxed paper. Spread the shavings out in a thin layer. Leave a 2-inch border around the shavings.

  3. Step 3

Put a flat paper grocery sack on the ironing surface. Lay the waxed paper containing the crayon shavings on the sack. Put a second sheet of waxed paper over the shavings, followed by a second flattened grocery sack.

  4. Step 4

Heat the iron to a medium heat. Slowly press the iron on top of the paper sack. Press each surface of the sack until the crayon shavings are completely melted. Set the waxed paper aside to cool.

  5. Step 5

Cut out hearts from the cooled waxed paper and shavings. Use a permanent marker to write messages on the hearts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cut several small hearts, or use a craft punch, and put them inside Valentine cards.
  • Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter as a template for cutting the hearts.
  • Write phrases like, "You really melt my heart, Valentine" and "Valentine, you color my world."
  • An adult should do all of the ironing.
  • Leaving the iron in one spot too long can burn the paper.
